Just ensure you pack the eyes away in a nice spot. I use the contents of old pillows, the centre is worn but the edges are still useful. Our attics had loads of bags of soft toys but we have given them to our daughters to sort.
There should be a retirement home for teddies to relieve us of the stress of getting rid of them. We once visited a stately home and there was a little railway that ran around the grounds. In a wooded area they had made a kind of teddy land which had lots of teddies and soft toys placed at various points. It was such a great idea and you could see them from the train. It would make one feel a lot better about retiring them to such a place so others could enjoy the sight of them as they ride past.
I feel your pain - it was do ir die time for some toys here recently. The op- shop said they would take the eyes if they were labelled (size?) but not the innards (hygeine reasons) which is strange because they sell second hand toys that have stuffing in them! The toys went in the bin.
Have to say your emotions are nothing to what it feels like putting eyes into/onto teddies faces - shoving the huge great needle from one side of the face to other makes me shiver with pain.
I think I would have just bagged them up and put them in a charity shop

These toys were tired and on their last legs and would just have been thrown away. I think the others will go in the bin.

You are doing the right thing, don't feel guilty.....re-use and feel good!! I quite often do this to things that are way past their best. Suzy x

ReplyDeleteGood idea, I need some more stuffing, in the charity shop they have soft toys for 20p so a cheap way of getting some.

ReplyDeletethis made me laugh....
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea... and now that the children have all left home, perhaps it could be done! Don't feel bad... make more teddies and re-stuff!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea but I don't think I could do that, poor old Ted...

I'm having to look away from your photo!! I've just started knitting teddies and I'm not sure I could use donated innards!!!
