Cloud formations

Beautiful blue sky today with little fluffy clouds.

To be correct it's a mackerel sky.

"Mackerel in the sky, three days dry."

"Mackerel sky, mackerel sky. Never long wet and never long dry."

I sound like the Edwardian Country Lady. On the way back from my walk I just had to call in the Junk Shop and found this book (plus some homes magazines). I have her book of Nature Notes which is of a similar vein.

On her 'September' page there were no clouds but this picture caught my eye.

One of the weather sayings she recorded was 'Fair on September the 1st; fair for the month.' Now was it fair last Saturday? It's certainly fair today.

  1. Well I hope that one holds true mum since we are on hol for the rest of the week.It has been fantastic for the last 3 days.Fingers crossed!

  2. Snap!!!! last year i found this same book at our local op shop and I must get it out and look at it again ,it is delightful.

  3. Love that book. The sky looks great but is the photo taken from Colditz - looks like lots of barbed wire.

    1. Susan the 'bars' are strands of lights as it's Blackpool Illuminations here and the whole promenade is lit up with tableaux and displays along with some of the streets.

  4. That was a lucky find.

Beautiful, hot sunny weather here today. Three more days of this would be good!

  5. One of my favourite books, mainly the paintings. And another favourite pastime is looking at the sky!

  6. Its a lovely day here today although a bit fresh at the moment but its still early yet. Lets hope we have a few sunny days now it would be lovely ;-)) My mum has that book its lovely, dee x

  7. I think summer may have arrived, it's lovely here today, long may it continue.

  8. I bought the same book a few years ago and sent it to my mum in Germany, as she adored the paintings within it. A little treasure of a book.

Thank you for your comments. it's always exciting reading them.
