Not my cup of tea

But I persevered. This book is written as a detective story follow on to Austen's Pride and Predjudice.

Because of this some people may find this a great book to read but ...

I'm afraid I found the story tedious and repetitive. Just not my 'cup of tea' at all. :(

PS DeeJay in Whangarei - thank you for your comment on the Stasiland book. Very interesting!

  1. I hate it when a book is not a pleasure to read. Thanks for the tip.

  2. This is definitely a Marmite book. We had in our Readers' Group and it was either loved or detested. I loved it even though I don't usually like PD James. Tomorrow we will discuss The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which I also enjoyed very much even though I would not have chosen it for myself. Catriona

  3. There's so many great books out there that it's a real let down when you read one which isn't for you. I usually soldier on and finish the ones I'm not keen on, but it usually takes me ages.

  9. I've got fed up with murder mystery novels so tried another Thomas Hardy, 'The Woodlanders'. Once you get to grips with the old fashioned language it was so lovely, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  10. Have to agree with most of the sentiments above - love PD James and Austin but not so sure about this one, though the concept was a great start/idea. Anybody got a suggestion of any other classic that might be 'updated' this way - or would it just ruin the classics for everybody??
