I forgot to take my bags to the supermarket so we ended up with a pile of plastic bags. I use plastic bags to put my bread in then as bin liners so they are recycled at least twice. My drawer was looking pretty untidy with all these extra bags so ...
... I remembered that you could fold them to make them very small.
Then I had a play about and folded them a different way to end up as a rectangle.
1. Fold the bag in half as in the first picture, then roll up the bag from the bottom leaving a little bit of handle showing.
2. Turn the bag over and fold one bottom edge to just past the middle.
3. Fold the other bottom edge on top. (thirds)
4. Roll the handle around the package and tuck in. Voila!
5. Both ways took about a minute a bag. (Sing the Grand Old Duke of York twice.)
Now I can fit all these extra bags in the drawer.

PS A very warm welcome to my new follower.
What a brilliant idea thanks for sharing, do you store your homemade bread in them? We make our own and it's always difficult to know what to store it in.

I make 2 loaves at a time. One goes in the freezer for later in the week - in a plastic bag, not necessarily a freezer bag, and one is used and stored again in a plastic bag.

We are all getting very well trained here in Wales .... we have to pay 5p at least for a carrier bag ( in shops) so we all take our own bags when shopping.

How the heck did you work out the Grand Old Duke of York theme?!
ReplyDeleteHello Mum, you are not the only one who leads a sad life, I've been folding my bags into triangles since the start of the year:)
ReplyDeleteI store mine waded (eek!) up in a bag holder made out of an old tea towel. It hangs out of the way. I reuse ever one.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I've baked my own bread for over 30 yrs, I've always found clear plastic food bags good for freezing but not for keeping fresh. We always reuse carrier bags so am going to try this one.:0)

i stuff them into a used kleenex box.
ReplyDeleteI've recently started folding my bags into triangles after seeing a post on the internet, I might try making squares next time for a change. I use mine for bin liners too.

Neat idea, and obviously really neat drawers with lots of little folded bags in them :-)
ReplyDeleteI buy the special homemade bread bags from Lakeland, they can be used over and over again and last forever. Mainly because I always refuse carrier bags so rarely have any available for re-use (and in Wales you have to pay for them anyway in every shop).
I'm a folder not a scruncher - means I can get more bags into the Bag bag. Not so many come into the house these days, only if like you I forget to take my bags from the car to the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteTake care
Cathy
For years I have used a small plastic bag [4cmx4cm] which has a closure along the top, to store one 'emergency' plastic carrier in my handbag.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Mum, you won't have to do it for much longer if they stop providing the free bags. lol I'll let you into a secret though...I'm a bit sad too as I fold mine up small but I have a diffrent method. lol

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who does this lol I use a different way but it still keeps them tidy, we don't have so many these days as I am getting good at remembering to take the strong reusable Bags for life. xx
