Blowing (er - growing) in the garden today

Carrots (in the middle of picking and freezing these)
Swede (blinkin' big things - devil to cut and peel)
Parsnips (roll on Christmas)
Beetroot (hmm - mm!)
Rhubarb (leaving to grow strong - got plenty of rhubarb crumble in the freezer)
Runner beans (running on and on and on and on)
French beans (keep forgetting to pick - look away and there's more)
Courgettes (who wants a courgette? Courgette surprise isn't a surprise anymore.)
Corn (whoops, no, picked and frozen)
Tomatoes (outdoors and in greenhouse, red ones and yellow ones, froze a pile the other day)
Cucumber (small sized but lots of)
Grapes - (nearly eaten them all)
Chives (snip, snip into different dishes)
Oregano (as above)
Leeks (getting fatter)
Strawberries (all fruit eaten)

'This self-sufficiency thing really is amazing. We sow the seed, right. Nature grows the seed, and then, we eat the seed. And then, after that, we sow the seed, nature grows the seed, and then, we eat the seed. And then, after that again, we sow the seed, nature grows the seed....' (Neil: The Young Ones)

  3. Yes, it is amazing. I have only grown a few things, but it's great that I don't have to go shopping so often, it saves me a fortune. I can't wait to pull my parsnips, first time I have tried them, keeping my fingers crossed :O)

  4. Iona, the parsnips will keep in the ground right up to Christmas and beyond. Some people say that they taste nicer after the frost but we just pick and eat them when they're a decent size.

  6. I agree with you about swede, I always have to fight to cut it. I love growing my own veg, and it tastes far better than supermarket bought too.
