Not my cup of tea

I'm sure that the individual stories of each chapter combined to make sense of the overall plot but I kept forgetting who was who. I've never 'gelled' with other stories by this author so I think I'll call it a day for reading any more of her books.

I don't think it helped that I had 4 other books on the go as well as this one!

  1. Hello Mum

I'll echo that.. I've read a couple of her books and cannot get in to them. That is I do read them to the end but I just don't feel satisfied after reading them.
She does seem to be quite a popular author though.

  3. Aren't her books really thick too? I see them on the shelf and think "that's even too much effort to lift!"

  4. I quite like her books, but I prefer the ones with one main character! Characters from earlier books tend to pop up in the later ones, which I enjoy, but probably means too many characters for new readers. I admire you for managing five books at a time! Lesley x

  5. Some of hers I have liked, but I agree you lose the plot when you cant remember who is who, I had thought it was just me and old age.

  7. Hi I don't think I've ever posted but have been reading your blog and enjoying it. Maeve Binchy died around a year or so ago. I read her last book and it was good. I've also enjoyed "Tara Road" (one of her earlier books) and that one I enjoyed too. I don't recall reading Whitethorn Woods though. I don't like when an author skips back and forth through different time periods. It is hard to follow. Have you read Tara Road? You might like that one. Just my opinion of course.

    1. Hi there and thank you for commenting. Yes I have read Tara Road - it was a long time ago. My DS bought it for me one Christmas. It was certainly a more structured story than this one.
Hope you can pop by again.

  8. I've also read this book and one other. I'm not keen on each chapter being a different person either. I have one more book from this author and I think I will also call it day.

  9. I tried a couple a few years ago but they were a bit too Irish for me - which sounds silly for someone with that background lol
